the very first tutorial combat I died like 3 times. I was legitimately scared at the first level that I might not be a good enough gamer to beat this game on Hard Mode. ![]() I honestly forgot about the whole cloning plot altogether which was kinda funny IMO. I went into this game thinking "Well targeting was bad in the first game but it should be fixed here" or "Sometimes combat was wonky with X but this will fix it" and further thoughts like that. I vaguely remember getting frustrated in Force Unleashed I as a kid and being satisfied that Force Unleashed II fixed a lot of my issues with the first game. So it's funny, as a kid I remember this being my favorite game! I remember happily mutilating stormtroopers and replaying this game constantly. needless to say that could be a bit frustrating at times.Īll and all I was really happy with Force Unleashed and played all the challenge missions (which were cool! I didn't do them as a kid, they felt a bit demoy in a sense like "Here are some concepts we wanted to put in the game but didn't implement" but I didn't mind at all! The game was fun, boss battles were challenging, and I had to come up with creative solutions to areas that made me get stuck due to enemy strength. Half the time when I throw objects it's like a heat-seeking missile curving around impossible corners to trick shot stormtroopers, other times it just blasts off like team rocket in a random direction. Sometimes I'd be pinned by snipers across the map and need to deal with them (because on hard, it takes 2 sniper shots to kill you) so i'd tried to fling an object at them from a distance with. Sometimes I'd try to pick up enemies and fling them into the abyss to manage tough enemies in a crowd, and even though I'm pointed directly at them, I pick up a random rock behind them and fling it instead. The biggest issue I'd often run into is targeting. I'd often get a bit frustrated by the mechanics more than I would in a normal playthrough, but only because the enemies now did so much damage that mistakes made by bad control design would be amplified and usually lead to dying a lot in the same area. Playing the first Force Unleashed game on Hard Mode was difficult at times but never overly challenging. Many of the levels would come up and I'd think "Oh yeah! I remember this level!" but the story beats (which I thought I had remembered) were not at all how I recalled. I was a bit shocked at how much of this game I had forgotten to be quite honest. So I decided to play both games in order, both played on Hard mode (you have to beat the game once to unlock "Unleashed" mode and I don't really feel like playing it twice right now). The other day I saw Force Unleashed for sale on steam and decided "Oh sure! I'd love to play that again"! The port on steam is god awful and needed community patches to be worthwhile, but I'm ignoring that today. So some context, I used to LOVE the Force Unleashed games as a kid, but I haven't played them in years. I guess technically there is a spoiler for Force Unleashed II, however, I think it's ok because it's revealed in the first 30 seconds of the game. This post contains no story spoilers for Force Unleashed 1 or 2 but does talk about the gameplay. NOTE: I originally posted this on r/Games, but it was suggested I instead post my long write-up here.
